Ralph Rawlinson's Railway Roundup

Resignalling policy
According to Rail Magazine, because of union considerations, Network Rail is keeping plans to
axe over 800 signal boxes and replace them with around 15 control centres under wraps until
later in the summer.  With each box bringing in a labour bill of 300,000 a year, savings could
be vast whilst for signalling contractors the project could see a new control centre opening
very year for 15 years!

York station improvements
Network Rail has decided that improvements planned at Holgate Junction will not be commissioned
over the August Bank Holiday after they discovered that they are more complex than at first
thought!  A new date has not been announced.

NER York - Beverley
The "Rail Campaign", which seeks to re-open the 34-mile route between York and Beverley, is
launching a new branch in York.  The first meeting will take place at the Railway Institute at
10.30 on Saturday 23rd July 2011.
